Tranquil Waters
Back River... Georgetown, ME
I've heard much about our need to listen to God, not only talk to God. But I don't understand what that means. I mean, I try to listen, but I don't hear anything; it does not work for me, I guess.
How do you try to listen?
I sit quietly with my eyes closed shut.
What do you hear when you try to listen?
Nothing.
Then, listen to nothing.
What does that mean?
Nothing is something. A mere negation is a logical impossibility. So, listen deeply to this nothing-something, and you listen to God, for listening deeply to anything is listening to God. Do not anticipate God will speak in a certain way, and you will learn to listen to and with God through all beings. The whole world will become your holy book.

Not hearing itself is a way God speaks forth Itself into our lives and world. In this speech, God is the speech.
Nothing and something are a one. All words - created things - are filled with the Word - the uncreate fount. You are one of those words - we all are. If you listen to rain dropping on a roof or a human's voice greeting you, it is the same speaking forth, the same listening, and, so, the same God.
